Ehsaas Koye Bhooka Na Soye (Truck Kitchens)
Ehsaas Koye Bhooka Na Soye’ (EKBNS) is a new policy initiative of the federal government to eliminate hunger in the country. On March 10, 2021, EKBNS was officially launched by the PM, to serve free meals to deserving populations. Currently, EKBNS is running 16 trucks in 7 cities.
The programme began with 16 trucks in 7 cities (Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Peshawar). The EKBNS operations are being expanded to all four provinces, AJK and GB with the overall fleet of 40 food trucks in 29 cities that would feed 40,000 people every day and 14.6 million people, annually.
The EKBNS programme serves free meals to labourers, daily wage earners and piece rate workers who cannot access Ehsaas Panagahs and Ehsaas Langars. Each truck feeds 1500-2000 people daily on specified service points. Meals are cooked, stored and served from a truck kitchen.
EKBNS was PM’s vision for the year 2021. Earlier this year, PM had declared his resolve for the year 2021 that EKBNS would be introduced to make sure that no one goes to bed hungry.Enshrined in post-COVID-19 Ehsaas strategy, EKBNS is premised on a public private partnership arrangement. Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal manages food truck operations and Saylani Welfare International Trust manages food production.
