Ehsaas conducted a door-to-door survey all over the country to gather about the socioeconomic status of households. The survey is 100 percent complete in the country. This was not just Pakistan but also South Asia’s first digital census that covered 34.41 million families through Cognitive API approach. 

The registry includes families’ information on demographics, socio-economic status, education, health, disability, employment, energy consumption, agri-landholdings, WASH, livestock etc. This registry will now facilitate data sharing for social protection and poverty alleviation programmes of federal government, provinces, government departments, think tanks and development agencies.

This was entirely an apolitical survey conducted on a paperless approach. To ensure transparency and integrity in data collection, the entire survey process was made end-to-end digital. Field teams went door to door to collect the socio-economic data of families at the doorstep through android tablets using various android apps. Data underwent various validations to precisely identify the real poor.

Despite COVID-19, the survey has been completed in Aug 2021 after a lag of 10 years.

Owing to the technical nature of Ehsaas survey, massive training of master trainers, trainers, enumerators, and supervisors was an important element of the survey methodology. To ensure hundred percent coverage of households in the survey, tehsils were split into blocks based on the population. This approach ensured hundred percent coverage and enabled the identification of left out households in the survey operations.

With the readiness of survey, the registry is now transiting from static to dynamic registry. It will be regularly updated every four years.

There are 2 ways through which deserving households can register themselves under Ehsaas program; the Ehsaas survey and Ehsaas registration desks.

Opening under the umbrella of Ehsaas, the special purpose Ehsaas registration desks are being established across all districts of the country in a phased manner. The purpose is that households whose Ehsaas socio-economic survey has not been conducted for any reason can come forward to self-register themselves in Ehsaas program.

Part of Ehsaas strategy, Ehsaas registration desks are an important instrument to keep the national socio-economic registry alive. The opening of registration desks is linked to the readiness of Ehsaas survey in each district. As the survey reaches a 70% milestone in a district, registration desks are opened enabling missing households to register themselves. Ehsaas Registration desks are opening at Tehsil level in the country.
