Bibi - Ehsaas Interest Free Loans Program

When her husband passed away, Bibi had to fend for her orphaned children. She is in her late 60’s and for the first time in her life had to consider a way to earn money. She was provided an interest free loan from Ehsaas IFL Program and set up a sewing business. She works out of a women’s market in Skardu and with tears in her eyes, sends a strong message to all widows and women in Pakistan to be independent and earn their own sustenance. Earlier it was unheard of widows coming out to earn a living in their old age, but with this supported environment and the assets provided to her to set up her shop, she has been able to support her children and ensure they have good nutrition and a continued education.
Every morning hundreds of street hawkers head out from their homes with products, a cart and or makeshift bicycle cart to sell their products in the bustling streets of any metropolis in Pakistan.
Kulsum is a mother of 4 children and her first 2 were born at home with bare minimum facilities. She had suffered post-natal depression and slow recovery during her first two deliveries.
